A $2.8 million lawsuit from a financing company against Oakes Farm and Seed to Table owner Aflie Oakes has been dropped.
According to a notice of voluntary dismissal, Farm Credit of Florida has chosen to dismiss the case against Oakes Farms with prejudice.
The lawsuit, filed in mid-October, claims Oakes took out two loans for the purchase or refinancing of farmland totaling about $4.5 million from Farm Credit of Florida, a Farm Credit Association. As of Oct. 9, Oakes was accused of still owing about $2.8 million.
In December 2019, Oakes guaranteed his company would pay both loans, but in May 2024, he gave a forbearance agreement, saying they would fail to pay in full.
The lawsuit explained that if Oakes did not pay in full by Aug. 30, 2024, Florida Farm Credit had the right to seize Oakes' property.
With the case being voluntarily dismissed with prejudice, it means Farm Credit of Florida cannot bring another action.
Within the documents, it states that the lawsuit affecting the property has been resolved.
It is unknown if this lawsuit is what caused the raid on Oakes' home .
Oakes' property no longer has a list of pending litigation that would have discouraged potential buyers. He is now able to sell or refinance the property in question.
