The owner of a grocery store is facing charges after a woman said he physically and sexually assaulted her in Collier County.
According to the Collier County Sheriff's Office, at 11:52 p.m. Nov. 21, deputies responded to a domestic disturbance on Wilson Boulevard South in Golden Gate Estates.
Deputies made contact with Patrick Tankoo, 38, who was passed out in the driver's seat of a running vehicle in the driveway.
Tankoo is the owner of Everglades International Mart, a grocery store along Everglades Boulevard North in Golden Gate Estates.
Upon confronting Tankoo, deputies said they saw a semiautomatic pistol in his hoodie's pouch and then handcuffed him.
His arrest report says the victim, Tankoo's girlfriend of eight years, was found hiding behind bushes in the backyard and had visible injuries to her face.
She said Tankoo picked her up at 6:30 a.m. and brought her to the Everglades International Mart, where he kept her there for about four hours and then allegedly threatened her with a gun. She said he told her he had 45 bullets, and if she told anyone what happened, he would shoot her and everyone.
Tankoo then brought her to his home, where she said he put a lock on the door, smoked an unknown substance and accused her of being part of a scheme to steal money from him.
The victim said she would not admit she was part of a stealing scheme, and Tankoo began to physically assault her, striking her multiple times in the face and body.
The report says she told deputies Tankoo then used duct tape to tape her legs and taped a pistol to her hands.
Tankoo then barricaded the door before forcing her to perform oral sex and sexually assaulting her, according to the CCSO report.
He later admitted he had sex with the victim but claimed it was roleplaying, the CCSO said.
The victim said Tankoo fell asleep at one point during the assault and then spontaneously woke up, realizing the store had to be closed.
After closing the Everglades Mart, the victim convinced Tankoo to go back to her residence and grab her belongings.
The victim also persuaded Tankoo to wait outside in the vehicle, allowing her to call for help. Tankoo threatened to kill her and her family if she called for help, according to the CCSO.
Deputies said while searching Tankoo, they found a piece of torn paper with methamphetamine in his pocket, too.
The victim was taken to NCH Northeast and had visible marks on her wrists and ankle area as if she had been bound, according to the CCSO.
Tankoo was taken to the Naples Jail Center. The CCSO said that on the way to jail, he said that the victim was never tied up with duct tape despite the fact that no deputies mentioned anything to him about her being tied up.
He is facing charges for the following:
- Aggravated assault with a deadly weapon without intent to kill
- Kidnapping; false imprisonment; false imprisonment of a person
- Sexual battery of a victim over 12 years old with a weapon or serious injury
- Battery; touch or strike another against their will
- Drugs possession; possession of a controlled substance without prescription
