A homicide suspect was killed after a traffic stop turned into an exchange of gunfire with deputies near Suncoast Drive and Laurel Lane in Suncoast Estates.
According to the Lee County Sheriff's Office, deputies were attempting to take the suspect into custody before they pointed a handgun and fired shots at deputies.
LCSO said deputies then returned fire and ultimately killed the suspect.
According to LCSO, no deputies were injured in the incident.
The suspect's name is being withheld pending notification of next of kin, LCSO said.
The deputies involved will be placed on administrative leave with pay, per agency policy.
LCSO said this is an active investigation and is in its preliminary stages.
