Friends and family gathered on Thanksgiving morning, cheering on loved ones as they crossed the finish line of the 5K Turkey Trot in downtown Fort Myers.
The Lee County Sheriff's Office also joined in the festivities, handing out a sweet treat to spectators at the Edison and Ford Winter Estates.
This year thousands of people came out to break a sweat and burn off some calories before their turkey dinners.
It was a morning full of family fun and good company for the holiday tradition.
Event coordinator Candace Pemberton said they had a record number 4,400 people people registered to run.
"Every year we have our annual Turkey Trot, which is growing by leaps and bounds. Two years ago, we had around 2300 runners. Last year we had 3400 runners, and this year we had 4,400 runners," Pemberton said. "It makes my heart so happy to see that everybody's enjoying themselves and having a great time. And now they can go home and eat a lot of turkey."
After the 5K race has came to an end, the Tot Trot took off - giving kids a Thanksgiving exercise of their own.
