The Lions have won their region and made it to the semifinals the past three seasons, including winning the state championship in 2022. Second-seeded FBA had a chance at its fourth consecutive regional title on Friday as it took on top-seeded Cardinal Newman.
Cardinal Newman flaunts one of the best defenses in the state. The Crusaders entered Friday's game with an impressive 8.6 points allowed per contest mark. That defense showed out against FBA. The Lions' usual high powered offense was held at for most of the night.
In physical game where FBA had its chances, the Lions came up short. Cardinal Newman won 27-9 ending FBA's regional dynasty.
