Lee County Sheriff Carmine Marceno is under a microscope as a grand jury is expected to examine FBI evidence regarding allegations of his involvement in a money laundering scheme.
The investigation has been ongoing for months now.
It all started after allegations of money laundering in which a former LCSO consultant claimed he was part of a kickback scheme he said was orchestrated by the sheriff.

NBC2 also learned one of Marceno's longtime friends claimed he was getting paid almost $6,000 a month for next to no work.
That same friend said he would take $1,700 and funnel it to Marceno's father so he could pay for a Mercedes.
Just last week, we told you about Lee County receiving a subpoena from the FBI requesting documents from the building and permitting services office.

NBC2 spoke to a defense attorney and former state prosecutor who said it is possible any evidence the jury hears won't be made public right away, but sometimes there are exceptions.
"Some things can be expedited maybe in the interest of public security or public interest that they believe this case should go forward. That happens a lot of times with elected officials," defense attorney Michael Hornung said.
