If Naples City Council decides to pass removing the water additive, it stands to impact about 300,000 residents.
Areas ranging from North Naples to Marco Island would no longer deal with fluoride in their water.
That's why council wants to hear from residents on Wednesday.
This comes after November's council meeting where mostly every city council member said yes to removing fluoride from residential water.
Council member Beth Petrunoff wants the research to prove otherwise.
Collier County unanimously removed fluoride from its water back in February.
A California court ruled against the EPA about the additive.
A study claims it lowers the IQ of children. The American Academy of Pediatrics has questioned the validity of the report.
NBC2 spoke to residents and cardiologists on the hot topic.
"The reason we as cardiologists are interested is because tooth decay, it causes a proliferation of disease of the heart, the coronary arteries. More tooth decay, more coronary disease," said cardiologist Dr. James Talano.
The meeting starts at 8:30 a.m. on Wednesday inside council chambers, but this specific agenda item is time certain for 3 p.m. Public comment is encouraged.
