Drivers might have done a double take and gotten distracted after seeing water fountains full of soap as bubbles bubbled over at The Forum. Some people even thought it was snowing.
"I think it's a public service that the kids are actually doing some dishwashing liquid and cleaning out the fountain for you guys," said Christopher Hulka.
A harmless prank got a lot of attention at The Forum. Kids smiled, and people took pictures and were, of course, shocked.
"Parents are going to get fined because it's more than likely a kid. If it's an adult doing it, well, you know," Hulka said. "I mean, where else gets a bunch of bubbles in a fountain? You know, it's on a good public corner there."
The bubbles didn't stop at the fountains; they were everywhere — in the air, on the road and even on the ground. People like Richard Hines said even SpongeBob would be surprised.
"It reminds me of the old days back in New York with snowstorms about 3 foot high, and then the wind came, and all of a sudden, all these little pieces of soapsuds were flying around like we were having a snowstorm in Fort Myers," said Hines.
NBC2 reached out to the Fort Myers Police Department on Friday to see if this is a crime. They told us that while this may look like an average prank, it can be extremely costly to the filtration system and could even rise to the level of criminal charges.
"It's going take a little bit to clean up and get the bubbles out, but I mean to make bubbles, you got to use the detergent and nine times out of 10, it's a big old bottle of Dawn," Hulka told NBC2.
NBC2 did reach out to The Forum's office in Estero on Friday to see if it was aware of the vandalism that occurred.
