North Port utility employees helped rescue a manatee along the Myakka River on Thursday morning.
According to a Facebook post from the City of North Port Government, the manatee was found at Biscayne Boulevard and Sydney Avenue.
The manatee was trapped in a dead-end canal during high tide.
After residents reported the manatee, two utility workers, James Marino and Dan Larkin, helped rescuers coax the manatee to the banks. This allowed the team to lift a sling for transport to open waters/
The Florida Fish and Wildlife Commission and Zoo Tampa were called to relocate the animal.
