A Port Charlotte man is facing serious charges for leading deputies on a high-speed chase while drunk over the weekend.
Around 4 a.m. on Saturday, Charlotte County deputies said Diarr Reynolds was driving his 2010 Mazda under the influence. Deputies spotted him speeding along Veterans Boulevard in Port Charlotte, going 72 miles per hour in a 55-mile-per-hour zone.
When deputies attempted to pull him over, Reynolds led them on a dangerous high-speed chase.
At one point, Reynolds pulled over at the intersection of Atwater Street and Veterans Boulevard, but when the deputy approached his vehicle, he sped away — this time reaching 102 miles per hour.
Deputies eventually called off the chase, instead parking near his home on Pates Street, waiting for his return.
When Reynolds arrived at his house, deputies tried to arrest him, but said he resisted. They were forced to use a taser to take him into custody.
Reynolds bonded out of the Charlotte County Jail. He’s no stranger to DUI charges, having been convicted in 2022, which led to an eight-month suspension of his license.
