Estero may be growing in size, with a lot of development proposed for the area.
The village of Estero is taking a closer look at two proposed living spaces in the area at a meeting today, bringing nearly 500 new homes to the booming area.
The first proposed housing development is called Summercrest , which would be added to the corner of Corkscrew Road and Sandy Lane, just east of US-41.
It would have 154 townhomes, on-site amenities and public amenities.
"I love more people being around," Estero resident and business owner Brandy Garcia-Salinas said. "I'm hoping that will bring in some of the younger crowd and maybe people with families. as well. Get some more kids playing out and about."
The village is also talking about adding Via Coconut right across the street from Summercrest, just South of Corkscrew Road off of Via Coconut Point Road.
The 330-unit living space would butt up against what will be the Bonita Estero Rail Trail and the Estero Sports Park at Estero High.
It includes several buildings and a few parks.
"I always welcome development to the area, and I think it's great to bring new people, but I do firmly believe that the infrastructure should definitely support that before we bring in new people," Estero business owner Karen Williams said. "I know we have a lot of traffic issues already. I think that needs to be addressed before the housing is just thrown in there."
Via Coconut would be complete in April 2027.
