UPDATE:
Officials have revised the schedule for full nighttime bridge closures. According to FDOT, the Caloosahatchee Bridge will be completely closed from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. from Dec. 15 through Dec. 20.
After initially announcing the reopening, FDOT has since determined the closures are necessary to allow crews to complete striping along the bridge.
ORIGINAL STORY:
The Caloosahatchee Bridge has fully reopened as of Friday, but the Florida Department of Transportation is still working on the eight-foot sidewalk.
Nonetheless, Friday is a big day for residents who rely on the lifeline between North Fort Myers and Fort Myers.
For the first time in six months, motorists are able to drive across the Caloosahatchee Bridge with no lane closures - specifically southbound lanes heading into Fort Myers.
FDOT said most of the construction work on the bridge has been completed a year ahead of schedule.
The Florida Department of Traffic closed the bridge to work on installing the eight-foot sidewalk, adding another way for you to get across safely if you like to walk or bike.
Though, you will have to wait a little longer to use the sidewalk. Crews are continuing to work on completing it along with other work like installing signs.
With this, you may still see occasional lane closures at night through December and possibly into the new year.
For now, say hello to your commute returning to its normal operation.
