The Florida Department of Law Enforcement issued an AMBER Alert on Monday morning for a 5-year-old with autism.
The Tavares Police Department began searching for Jace Saunders Sunday afternoon.
Police said he was last seen on the south side of Tavares near Summerall Park around 1:19 p.m.
Saunders was last seen wearing dark blue pajamas with a graphic design on the front.
According to police, Saunders is semi-verbal and has been diagnosed with autism.
Saunders is believed to be in custody of his grandmother, Kelly Dasilva, in a black Honda Accord or passenger car.
Officers said Saunders is supposed to be in custody of the state, but they believe his family unlawfully took him during a DCF investigation.
According to police, the mother and father of Saunders were arrested for interference of child custody. Family friend Mitchell Morris was also arrested on the same charge.
