The Fort Myers Beach Town Council has officially approved Seagate Development Group’s high-rise condo project at the former Red Coconut site.
In a 3-2 vote on Monday, council members greenlit Ordinance 24-34, a Home Rule Development Agreement, marking a pivotal moment for the redevelopment of the property.
The ordinance applies to the properties at 3001 Estero Boulevard, 2943 Estero Boulevard, 2932 Estero Boulevard, and 211 Donora Boulevard. It authorizes redevelopment of the site previously known as the Red Coconut RV Park, allowing for 17-story condos, a beach-view restaurant, and public amenities including a park with bike trails and beach access.
The RV resort almost completely washed away during Hurricane Ian in 2022 when storm surge on the island reached 15 feet.
The agreement includes terms and conditions consistent with the Town of Fort Myers Beach Comprehensive Plan and deviations needed for development. Seagate plans to build 140 residential units on the property and commits to public access features and other community benefits.
The project has faced months of scrutiny and mixed reactions from residents concerned about its scale and impact on the small-town character of Fort Myers Beach. Despite the pushback, Monday's approval signals significant progress for the development.
Additional steps remain before construction begins, but the council’s decision clears a major hurdle in shaping the future of Fort Myers Beach.
