Estero and Bonita Springs are expected to say yes on Wednesday to moving ahead with a trail project that would connect Southwest Florida to Tampa.
The project is ultimately a part of a 400+ mile trail system. On Wednesday, Estero and Bonita Springs are focusing on 15 miles of it, which runs through the village and the city.
Think of it as a highway for walkers and bikers, using old railroads which are no longer functioning.
This trail will also be in close proximity to 11 schools across Lee County which services 10,000 students.
Fort Myers Beach also wants a piece of the trail, with an idea to get the island connected to the trail to connect residents to shops, breweries and more.
The Village of Estero is expected to say "yes" on Wednesday morning to moving ahead with the project and committing $5 million to the project.
Bonita Springs is set to meet Wednesday evening to approve supporting the project.
