The man who was caught on camera stealing a plane from Page Field Airport in Fort Myers has been sentenced to prison.
Bruce Plummer was previously found guilty of two counts of burglary while armed, grand theft, possession of a bulletproof vest during the commission of a felony, armed trespassing and for a crime involving stealing a plane.
Plummer was sentenced to 12 years in prison, followed by five years of state probation.
Plummer was ordered to pay $261,748.83 in restitution to Endurance American Insurance Co. Restitution was ordered and reserved for the three other victims and Page Field Airport.
Plummer is also ordered to pay court costs and the cost of prosecution, forfeit any firearms, and undergo mental health evaluation.
The incident happened in February. Around 6:30 a.m. Authorities responded to an aviation ramp at the airport. Maintenance crews found an airplane that was moved and damaged.
The plane crashed into a light pole and the airport's perimeter fence. It also had a broken wing and was sitting in the grass near the ramp.
According to the state attorney's office, the single door to the aircraft was open, and the pilot's operating handbook was lying in a seat. Some switches and lights were also in the on position, and the throttle for one engine was pushed forward between idle and full power.
An airport employee even found a gun and a tactical ballistic vest over a fence near the crash site.
Surveillance video showed Plummer arriving in a black Dodge Charger before scaling a barbed-wire fence. Plummer tried to start and move two different planes before starting and crashing the one he ultimately damaged.
Additional surveillance video from a nearby convenience store showed him, and that led to the identification of Plummer.
After a search warrant was served at Plummer's residence, detectives found the clothing and shoes he had worn during the crime.
According to the SAO, the torn blue jacket he wore was found in the Dodge Charger, and a piece of material left on the barbed-wire fence he scaled matched it.
