Two people were arrested after being accused of stealing over $2,000 worth of merchandise from retail stores in Naples on Monday.
According to the Naples Police Department, around 2 p.m., detectives saw a blue Toyota Corolla with a Florida paper tag at Parkshore Plaza.
The man and woman, identified as Franco Guzman, 21, and Romina Berriostoro, 23, went inside Burlington Coat Factory with empty bags and a backpack.
30 minutes later, the Naples Police Department said the couple came out of the store with their bags filled.
An investigation revealed that Berriostoro had an active warrant from Orange County for possession of an anti-shoplifting device and retail theft.
The police department states a traffic stop was conducted and both suspects were arrested.
Guzman was found to have an active warrant for possession of an anti-theft device and petit theft out of Broward County.
ID for both suspects indicated they lived in Jacksonville.
Identification on both subjects indicated they resided in Jacksonville.
When detectives searched the vehicle, they found the backpack and tote bags lined with metal and duct tape to disable anti-theft sensors.
More clothing stolen from Marshall’s was also located, according to NPD.
Berriostoro was charged with failure to appear on an out-of-county warrant and possession of an anti-theft device.
Guzman was charged with failure to appear, possession of an anti-theft device, and driving without a valid license.
Both suspects are facing further charges related to other retail theft locations.
The total amount of stolen items of clothing was $2,361.98.
The police department states detectives are working with loss prevention for Burlington and Marshall’s to add additional charges.
