The city of Naples has officially announced the discontinuation of its annual and free New Year’s Eve fireworks. City officials cited numerous challenges and safety concerns as the primary reasons for ending the event for the foreseeable future.
“Many have inquired, and the City of Naples would like to address the question: Why were the New Year’s Eve fireworks discontinued? ... This decision was made after careful consideration of several factors," said the city in a press release sent out earlier this week.
Among the key reasons listed were:
- Parking and traffic congestion: December is one of Naples’ busiest months during high season, and the influx of visitors and tourists combined with New Year’s Eve gatherings creates significant challenges for areas near the beach.
- Public safety demands: The Naples Police Department faces an increased workload during the holidays, making it difficult to allocate resources for a large-scale event like the fireworks display near the Naples Pier.
- Boating access: Preparing for the fireworks requires the closure of Naples Landing for at least 36 hours, a disruption during the peak boating season.
The city emphasized its commitment to prioritizing safety, accessibility, and effective resource management during this bustling time of year.

At first, I didn’t want to hear it …. I thought it was just for this year ... Then you told me it might be a greater length of time, which is just too bad. We love them on the big occasions. … I feel bad. I would’ve looked forward to it, but I guess I have to go somewhere else," said Bob Rand, a seasonal resident from Bonita Springs.
I had a lot of cherished childhood memories here at the pier … seeing people fish, sharks on occasion ... Maybe if they had a bus system or something to help alleviate some of the traffic during busy times like high season, that would help a lot,” said Mary Marston, a Naples resident.
