New video shows a chaotic scene that erupted outside Fuegoz Lounge early Saturday morning, when more than 20 gunshots were fired in the nightclub’s parking lot, according to Cape Coral police.
Two women suffered minor injuries in the crossfire.
Police said the incident happened shortly after 2 a.m., as people began leaving the lounge on Del Prado Boulevard.
Video recorded at the scene shows a large crowd still gathered outside and several people rushing toward a disturbance before the shots rang out. Witnesses are seen scrambling for cover amid the rapid gunfire.
Cape Coral Police spokeswoman Lisa Greenberg said investigators believe a fight happened shortly before the shooting. When officers arrived, she said, the parking lot was in disarray, with people and vehicles fleeing.
Police identified Kunata Bolden , 22, as a suspect in the shooting.
Members of the U.S. Marshals Fugitive Task Force tracked him down and took him into custody, Greenberg said.
Neighbors in the area said they heard sirens and cars racing away in the moments after the shots were fired. Some expressed concern about the growing nightlife scene and called on city officials to respond with increased security measures.
“It’s really concerning because that’s basically my backyard,” said Mike Velazquez, who lives a block away. “I take my dogs out at that time, you know.
Others, like William Duvall, suggested that a stronger police presence could help. “They should have a cop drive by every once in a while,” he said.
Residents said they have previously complained to the city about noise and speeding cars late at night, and some believe the weekend shooting underscores the need for greater oversight of local establishments.
Cape Coral police said the investigation is ongoing and more details are expected to emerge.
