The company announced that a wet dress rehearsal—the final preparation before liftoff—is set to take place this week, signaling that the launch is imminent. The company has confirmed that the launch will occur before the end of the year.
Standing 320 feet tall, New Glenn is a massive multi-stage rocket designed to produce an estimated 3.9 million pounds of thrust at liftoff. Once completed, it will feature a fully reusable first stage, a key innovation in Blue Origin’s plans to compete for in the new space economy.
Mike Olive, a local rocket enthusiast, shared his excitement about the upcoming launch, saying, "I think it's pretty awesome. I come out here, I see rockets going up all the time, and every time it amazes me."
The sight of the New Glenn rocket on launch pad 36 has drawn many observers. Ed Carlson, another local enthusiast, remarked, "I think it's good, it's about time for some competition for SpaceX. They launch them, sometimes there's two a day."
The rocket’s launch will be visible from many areas along Florida's Space Coast, and spectators are eagerly anticipating the show. “I live 45 minutes away... if I'm not here I still look out the window and watch the smoke trails going up... it’s like nowhere else in the world,” Olive added.
New Glenn is named after John Glenn, the first American to orbit the Earth. Once launched, it will join a growing number of missions at the world's busiest spaceport, which continues to be a hub for both space exploration and innovation.
