A Fort Myers business owner is urging others to bolster their security after thieves stole an $11,000 flatbed trailer in broad daylight. The theft occurred early Sunday morning, around 8 a.m., at AA Action Electric Inc. on Fowler Street.
Jonathan Marr, the owner of AA Action Electric, was shocked when he reviewed his security footage, which shows two men cutting through the gate lock with bolt cutters. The thieves, disguised in fake neon vests to look like workers, quickly hooked the trailer to the back of their F-350 truck and sped off, leaving the business in a financial hole. The entire theft took less than five minutes.
“It just makes me angry. I work hard for what I have, and to have someone come in and take it like that — it's just wrong,” said Marr. “People just like to shop job sites and steal from hard-working contractors like us.”
Marr believes the stolen trailer could be shipped out of the country, potentially reaching Miami within hours and then sent overseas in a shipping container, making it difficult to track down.
In response, Marr plans to enhance security at his lot, including additional wheel locks and repositioned cameras to better capture all angles of the property. “I'm not even going to use regular locks anymore. I’ll put boots on the wheels and make it much harder for them to steal again,” he said.
The Fort Myers Police Department is actively investigating the theft and reviewing the security footage for potential leads. Marr hopes someone will recognize the thieves from the footage and help bring them to justice.
