Dr. Piper Center in Fort Myers held its 109th Christmas Celebration this year. The center gave out toys to children in need.
Organizers said the goal was to ensure that every child had a very merry Christmas.
Toys filled Dr. Piper Center in Fort Myers with games like Apples to Apples, toys like power tools and dolls, plus, over 200 bikes.
"We are so happy that we have the bikes to give away," said Savon Chester, Dr. Piper Center board of director. "I always tell the story. A young man won a bike one year, and the next year, he came back, and he told us he used that bike to get a part-time job at Publix."
Chester was one of the 15 volunteers this year helping give kids, from newborns to teens, the Christmas they deserved. She said about 411 kids registered and 204 bags of toys were given out.
Byron Adams was also a volunteer this year. It's his third year spreading Christmas cheer.
"My mom was the one who got me into it," Adams said. Ever since, I've enjoyed it. I've been enjoying waking up at 6 a.m. to come here at 7 a.m. to see all the kids smile and be able to have a good experience when they come in here for a nice merry Christmas."
Chester and Adams both said the event means so much to them.
"This means so much to me because it means so much to our community," Chester said. "Families know that they can come here and get toys for their kids, no matter what they're going through."
Adams said he comes back every year to see the joy on the kids' faces when they receive a toy.
"The main thing is definitely always the kids," he said. Seeing all the kids coming through and be excited. That's my joy."
