It seemed like everyone opened their presents and then headed to the beach this Christmas. Whether you were enjoying the water, playing in the sand or taking a stroll in your matching pajamas, the magic of Christmas was alive in Fort Myers Beach.
Some, like the Simionescu family, visited the beach to escape the cold. “We're from Traverse City, Michigan. We're just wearing our pajamas, going to get coffee and just making a fun start to our morning,” said Leslie Simionescu.
Others visited the area to carry on traditions, like Barb and Bob Melson. "We always come down to Fort Myers Beach on Christmas Day. I started coming here in 1965 with my parents," said Barb Melson.
One couple visited the Poinsettia Tree in Times Square to create a memory that will last a lifetime. NBC2 cameras caught their proposal.
"You wait your whole life for somebody, and they finally come into your life. She's my best friend," said the man who proposed.
Fort Myers Beach may not look how it did two years ago, before hurricanes Ian, Helene and Milton. However, judging by the crowds Wednesday, more people don't seem to mind.
