A man was found dead in a Lehigh Acres home Tuesday afternoon after a SWAT team standoff is now confirmed to be a suspect in a recent homicide.
Lee County Sheriff's Office deputies and the U.S. Marshals Service responded to the home near Ninth Street Southwest and Ida Avenue South related to a "barricaded subject".
The sheriff's office said they were at the home searching for the unnamed suspect in an active homicide investigation.
Deputies said the suspect ran away from the scene after killing the woman, and its Homicide Unit assumed the investigation. The man was facing second-degree murder and one count of battery on a person 65 or older.
The deceased male was found with an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound inside while deputies were attempting to gain access to the home.
Deputies said no one else was inside the home during the standoff with the SWAT team, and deputies fired no shots.
