A man was arrested after allegedly throwing a Molotov cocktail at an occupied car in his driveway in Port Charlotte.
Jon S. Warner, 61, is facing multiple charges after being arrested on Monday morning.
Deputies with the Charlotte County Sheriff's Office responded to a home on Midway Boulevard on Sunday around 8:30 a.m. after Warner called them to report an argument with a woman.
Deputies said they spoke with Warner and the woman and determined no arrests needed to be made at that time.
According to reports, just before 2 a.m., deputies received a new call from Warner in which he said he believed the woman had taken his debit card and gone out with a friend.
Warner was later heard on the phone reportedly saying, "Get back, get back, Molotov."
Deputies then responded to the home on Midway Boulevard again.
When deputies arrived, they said they saw a fire in the driveway and noticed an overwhelming odor of gas.
Deputies said they talked to another man who said that he pulled into the driveway to drop off the woman. Warner then reportedly lit something on fire and threw it at the man's car.
The item reportedly hit the car, burst into flames and damaged the windshield as well as spilled out onto the driveway.
Deputies said the item was determined to be a Molotov cocktail that was made with gasoline, a plastic bottle and a wick.
"This could have been very, very bad for everyone involved. Thankfully, nobody was hurt in this reckless and dangerous act, but Mr. Warner will still be held accountable. Instead of being at home, he will ring in the new year at the Charlotte County Jail. Sadly, I don’t think he’ll get to see the ball drop tomorrow night," CCSO Sheriff Bill Prummell said.
According to reports, Warner confessed and is being held at the Charlotte County Jail without bond.
Warner is facing charges of arson and possession or manufacturing of a firebomb.
