Two 20-year-old Fort Myers women were among those injured after a man intentionally plowed a truck through crowd in New Orleans in an "act of terrorism."
According to reports, both woman graduated from Canterbury School in Fort Myers.
The two women were reportedly taken to the hospital following the attack.
According to police, the suspect rammed a vehicle at high speed into a crowd of pedestrians in New Orleans' French Quarter district at 3:15 a.m. on Wednesday along Bourbon Street.
Police said ten people are dead and 35 are injured. The suspect reportedly opened fire on police, injuring two officers.
Multiple reports name the suspect as 42-year-old Shamsud Din Jabbar. The New York Times and NBC News confirmed the suspect's identity.
It happened around the end of New Year’s celebrations in New Orleans and hours before the kickoff of the AllState Sugar Bowl, a college football quarterfinal held in the city’s Caesars Superdome, with thousands expected to be in attendance.
The identities of the Fort Myers women have not been shared at this time.
