Distracted driving isn’t just about texting anymore. Some drivers are taking it to the next level — watching movies while behind the wheel.
Just hours into the new year, a driver on Pine Ridge Road in Collier County was caught on camera with his phone propped on the steering wheel, fully focused on a movie.
Collier County driver Lauren Osborne said the driver couldn’t stay in his lane. When the driver realized he was being filmed, his reaction was far from G-rated — he flipped off the camera.
"Watching a movie while driving is definitely the next level of incompetency," local driver Pedro Garcia said.
Unfortunately, this isn’t an isolated case. Three years ago, a woman in Fort Myers was caught on camera doing the same thing. In another instance, a man was recorded driving down I-75 in a Tesla while reading a book.
Drivers in Southwest Florida say incidents like these are a stark reminder of the risks we face on the road.
