Fort Myers' popular road, McGregor Boulevard, has become increasingly congested with heavy truck tr,affic causing concerns for local residents.
City Councilman Liston Bochette of Ward 4 has been receiving numerous complaints about the growing number of large trucks using the road.
Neil Potter, a longtime resident, recalls the Edison Park Historic District as being quiet and peaceful.
Now, he says McGregor Boulevard is busy with traffic, and drivers even use the residential roads to cut through traffic.
Bochette said he's observed a disturbing rise in dump trucks on the road, with 21 counted in just 30 minutes one day.
To address the issue, Bochette is pushing to enforce an existing ordinance that restricts large trucks on McGregor Boulevard.
He aims to ensure that drivers take alternative routes that are better equipped for heavy vehicles.
The goal is not to penalize truck drivers, but to reduce the misuse of the road and protect public safety. The issue will be discussed at a city council meeting next Monday.
