After being injured in what authorities are calling a terror attack that shook the City of New Orleans, a 19-year-old Fort Myers woman who was injured is speaking out for the first time.
On New Year's Day, Shamsid-Din Jabbar is accused of intentionally driving a pickup truck into a crowd in the famous French Quarter District.
The attack left over a dozen people dead and more than 30 injured.
Among the injured were two 19-year-old Fort Myers women, Elle Eisele and Steele Idelson .
Idelson and Eisele both graduated from Canterbury School in Fort Myers in 2023. Eisele's family said they are lifelong friends.
Now, Eisele posted a statement to her Instagram following the attack:
"With more gratitude than you can fathom, I wanted to let my friends and family know that I am fighting and I am healing. Most importantly, I am alive, and I am so thankful that God spared Steele and myself. I'm reading your messages, and I'm thankful for your support and love and one day soon, I'll be replying to you! Please keep praying for all of us survivors"
The FBI said they believe the Shamsud-Din Jabbar acted alone in the 'act of terrorism' and there is no definitive link between this incident and the Cybertruck explosion in Las Vegas on the same day.
