The Lee County Sheriff’s Office arrested Ajiha Philips on New Year’s Day for using stolen credit cards at stores along Six Mile Cypress.
Deputies said they were patrolling this area because of recent thefts when they noticed Philips acting suspiciously.
Deputies said they saw Philips walking from the Walmart to the Home Depot, wearing an orange hoodie over his head and a black face mask.
“It's the first time I have that something happened, like, somebody steal, credit card or something over here, so I’m surprised,” said Pablo Perez, who was shopping at Home Depot.
Then deputies said Philips walked over to Wendy’s, but his hands were shaking, so they confronted him.
Deputies said Philips claimed he didn’t have his ID, gave deputies a fake name, and then took off running.
Deputies were able to catch Philips and found a wallet with several credit cards that belong to three different women and seven gift cards.
One of the victims says her card has charges for $360 and $228 at Walmart that she didn’t make.
“We don't need a thief around here because it's, like, a neighborhood,” Perez said.
LCSO said Philips is being charged with burglary, theft, giving a false name and more.
