A man is accused of murdering his brother in the parking lot of a south Fort Myers restaurant on New Year's Day.
According to the Lee County Sheriff's Office, deputies responded to Casa Blanca Modern Mexican Tequila Bar on Marketplace Road near Daniels Parkway and I-75 about a shooting at 8 p.m.
When deputies arrived, they found a man dead with gunshot wounds, and the suspect, Steve Anthony Iglesia Jr., 25, was already on his knees with his hands behind his head.
Detectives said Iglesia Jr. was at the restaurant with family when he got into an argument. The verbal fight turned physical and continued outside.
LCSO said that's when Iglesia Jr. shot the victim in the head but has not confirmed the identity of the victim.
NBC2 spoke with the suspect's father, Steve Iglesia Sr., who said it was his son, 25-year-old Christopher Iglesia, who was shot and killed by his brother.
The father said he is heartbroken and confused. He said Iglesia Jr. was in the military and suffered from PTSD.
Our crews also spoke with people who went to high school with the brothers. They tell us they were shocked to hear about this and that Steve and Christopher were very close.
Both the suspect and the victim have two children, according to Iglesia Sr.
Iglesia Jr. faces charges of second-degree murder and domestic violence battery.
The sheriff's office said Iglesia Jr. is currently in custody at the Lee County Jail and is awaiting his first appearance in court.
