Drivers, walkers, and bicyclists using U.S. 41 from William Street to Peace River Bridge may experience some backups starting Thursday.
Florida Department of Transportation crews are back to work installing a roundabout in the area. Officials say this project is in an effort to make it safer for those who are going in and out of Downtown Punta Gorda. With work back on, this means a couple of road closures.
You can expect closures at night and during the day around U.S. 41 northbound from William Street to Carmalita Street and U.S. 41 southbound from West Virginia Avenue to William Street. Carmelita Street onto U.S. 41 northbound will also be closed during this time. If you're attempting to get to Carmalita Street from Cross Street, you will have to turn left on West Charlotte Avenue, then right on Taylor Street and keep going until you reach Carmalita Street.
FDOT expects the two lanes to be back open within the next two weeks.
