A local Fort Myers entertainment group is hoping their commercial will air during one of the most-watched events of the year — the Super Bowl.
Radically Indifferent’s quirky "Dentures" commercial has made it into the top 25 of Doritos’ Crash the Super Bowl competition, a contest that invites creators to submit their best Doritos-themed content for a chance to have it broadcast during the big game.
The group behind the commercial — Sheena Reagan, Nathan Wallace Julie Wallace, and Victor Muriel — started their journey back in September with over 100 potential ideas, eventually narrowing it down to one by October. The concept they chose revolves around the humorous idea that the love for Doritos is so strong, people might even be willing to share their dentures just to get a bite. To bring the vision to life, the group worked closely with local friends and Southwest Florida residents.
NBC2 had the chance to catch up with the local creators on their quest to win $1 million dollars and a slot in the Superbowl.
They explained that the most difficult part was finding two actors willing to remove their dentures on camera. Victor Muriel talked about the creative process, saying that while the crunch of the Dorito was captured, the rest of the commercial had to be built from scratch.
The group had to keep quiet on the project through the holidays but remained excited, especially after learning they were semifinalists in the competition. "We were stoked," Nathan Wallace said.
On Jan. 3, the group was finally allowed to announce their status in the competition, and now they are hoping to make it into the top three after the public vote on Jan. 14. If they succeed, their commercial could air during the Super Bowl.
