Crews are investigating a gas leak underneath the intersection of Windward Drive and Bald Eagle Drive on Marco Island.
According to a City of Marco Island news release, two businesses in the area have been evacuated as a precautionary measure.
The Marco Island Fire Rescue Department and police have responded to the call and are working alongside local utilities.
Residents are advised to avoid the area until further notice. The gas company, TECO, was also en route to help repair the leak.
City officials said there is a road closure between Chalmer Dr and Barfield Dr.
Officials advised those planning to visit any businesses in the area to call ahead and confirm they are not impacted by the situation.
