The man sentenced to death for hiring hitmen to kill his wife in Bonita Springs wants a judge to vacate his conviction and overturn his death sentence.
Dr. Teresa Sievers was killed at their Bonita Springs home back in 2015.
On Tuesday, Sievers' attorney asked the judge for records sealed by the medical examiner's office. The judge said he needs more time to decide, so no decision was made today.
In court, the medical examiner's office said they don't think the records the defense requested are relevant to lead to any evidence. They think the request should be denied. But if the court wants to see it then they ask the court show it under strict conditions...
Mark Sievers appealed his conviction and death sentence to the Florida Supreme Court in 2022.
His appeal was denied, and a motion for rehearing was denied in 2023. Another hearing on this is scheduled for next month.
