If you love a good jukebox musical, then "Jersey Boys" The Story of Frankie Valli & The Four Seasons is filled with hits that just keep giving as it's dramatic, beautifully staged and is a gloriously performed show that keeps your toes tapping to the group's biggest hits.
The show of course centers on Frankie Castelluccio aka: Frankie Valli played magnificently by Actor Sebastian Rohn, who has perfected the one-of-a-kind voice of Valli, with his high falsetto he is known for.
This is a true-life story of The Four Seasons humble beginnings in Jersey and includes Actor Joe Collins as smooth talker Tommy DeVito, Actor Bobby Guenther as Nick Massi and Actor Bobby Becher as Bob Gaudio, four guys from the 'hood who became the original members of The Four Seasons.
The show depicts the demons the men struggled with in the late 1950s as they were forming and during early 1960s when the band started to get noticed with legendary chart topping hits like "Big Girls Don't Cry, Rag Doll and Hang On" to name just a few and each is performed more like a concert than a stage show but that's what makes it so much fun.
Don't get me wrong there is a great storyline here filled with humor, drama and sadness that followed the group and while the show is often times narrated by the characters, breaking the fourth wall, it works and gives the audience that feeling that the character is really telling you, their story and helping to move things along.
Winner of four Tony Awards, Jersey Boys takes audiences behind the music and shares the secrets of their 40 year friendship which transformed into one of the most successful bands in music history.
The energy of the show is consistent throughout and it gives the audience a real dose of nostalgia so if you're looking for a stroll down memory lane this a show for you.
While the lighting, costumes and the set were beautiful there were some missed mic cues that could be worked on and I'm sure a little polishing will have it in top notch.
Prather Productions Jersey Boys kicks off its national tour in Fort Myers at the Barbara B. Mann Performing Arts Hall and runs January 7-12, 2025.
