An 11-year-old boy was arrested after being accused of falsely reporting a school shooting incident at Lehigh Acres Elementary on Wednesday.
The Lee County Sheriff's Office responded to Lehigh Acres Elementary School around 2:25 p.m. after receiving reports of a shooting incident.
Multiple deputies responded to the school where they identified the caller as Dylan Najera.
LCSO said while deputies responded, analysts with the Real Time Intelligence Center began checking cameras at the school and making contact with the School Resource Officer in an attempt to identify the threat.
After reviewing surveillance cameras, deputies said they determined there was no active threat.
LCSO said the call placed was an attempt to "SWAT" the school.
Swatting is defined as the action or practice of making a prank call to emergency services in an attempt to bring about the dispatch of a large number of armed police officers to a particular address.
Detectives with the School Threat Enforcement Team took over the investigation and determined Najera made the call while joking with another student during class.
Najera was arrested and is facing one count of making a false report concerning the use of firearms in a violent manner.
