Two women were arrested after being accused of stealing over $1,000 worth of items from a Cape Coral Walmart on Thursday.
According to the Cape Coral Police Department, Amanda Driggers, 36, and Nichole Carnes, 35, are accused of committing retail theft at 1619 Del Prado Blvd. S.
At 8:41 a.m., officers were dispatched to the store following reports of two women stuffing merchandise in a reusable shopping bag.
CCPD states loss prevention staff watched Driggers and Carnes attempt to leave the store without paying.
While one suspect was detained, the other fled the store with the items and was seen going inside a nearby Staples store.
Driggers was found inside the women's restroom and taken into custody.
Inside her bag, officers found drug paraphernalia, including a glass pipe and a small metal container with a white residue that tested positive for methamphetamine.
Carnes remained in the Walmart loss prevention office, where an investigation led to her arrest. When officers searched her purse, they found a spoon with a white residue that tested positive for cocaine.
The total value of stolen merchandise, including cosmetics, clothing, and other items, was $1,056.85.
Both Driggers and Carnes were arrested and charged with:
- One count each of grand theft
- One count each of possession of drug paraphernalia
