The Lake Kennedy Racquet Center in Cape Coral is always packed with pickleball and tennis players, but it may be getting a new name and logo.
Today, the Cape Coral City Council met to discuss the changes.
Lisa Zirk, the Lake Kennedy Racquet Center's general manager, said the name would be "The Courts, Cape Coral." She said they wanted a name that people will notice.
"We all kind of came to this decision that it was the right move to make having Cape Coral in the title because we definitely want to put Cape Coral on the map," Zirk said.
Most Lake Kennedy Racquet Center members said they like the new name.
"It's more generic," said Steve Rollis, a Cape Coral resident. "Lake Kennedy certainly identified where the location is, but for a lot of us, that wouldn't be that significant."
"We actually like it," said Sarah Dunkelbere, a Cape Coral resident. "We think it's a great match for the courts and the teams. The different tennis and racquetball and pickleball."
Council was presented with three different designs with its new name. The majority of council like the first option: a colorful design with a circle around the name.
Rollis likes the new design, while others, like Sarah Dunkelberger, prefer a different design.
"I like the black and white," she said. "Nice, easy lines and easy to match your clothes with."
Zirk said the changes shouldn't be too expensive because most of their products don't have the name "Lake Kennedy" on them.
There will be a future meeting for the council to make an official vote on the logos.
