Naples City Council members have appointed a new city manager following Jay Boodheshwar's resignation.According to a news release, council members unanimously voted to appoint Gary Young. He was the deputy city manager and CFO.Officials said the decision came after discussions during the City Council Workshop earlier in the week, and his expertise and years of service were key factors in the appointment.Young was born and raised in Canton, Ohio. He went on to earn his BA and MBA from Malone University. The City of Naples said Young held multiple positions during his 30-year career with the City of Canton, including accountant, chief deputy auditor and chief deputy treasurer.After his retirement, Young also briefly served as CFO for the Stark County, Ohio, Board of Developmental Disabilities before relocating to Naples.Young joined the City of Naples in March 2016 as its deputy finance director. He was then appointed finance director in 2019 and later became deputy city manager and CFO in 2023.The City of Naples said Young is an expert in governmental accounting, financial reporting, ERP systems, budget management, capital projects and debt administration.Young shared the following statement via the news release:“It is an honor to serve the City of Naples in this new capacity. I look forward to continuing our work to maintain financial stability, enhance city services, and support the community’s vision for the future.”Mayor Teresa Heitmann is finalizing contract negotiations with Young for formal approval at the Feb. 5 city council meeting.
