Another Florida Gulf Coast University sports coach is stepping away.
On Thursday, the university announced softball head coach David Deiros will retire from coaching at the end of the 2025 season. Following the year, Deiros will move into an administrative role within the FGCU Athletics Department.
Deiros built the program from the ground up, founding the softball team in 2001.
He led the Eagles to 18 winning seasons, over 750 career wins and five ASUN championships.
"Building FGCU softball and contributing to its, and the university's, unprecedented growth has been, and continues to be, the highlight of my professional life," Deiros said via a FGCU news release . "This incredible 24-year journey has only been possible because of the fantastic student-athletes and assistant coaches that have donned the Blue and Green.
Deiros is the fourth FGCU coach to step away this year, following women's basketball coach Karl Smesko , volleyball coach Matt Botsford and men's soccer coach Jesse Cormier .
The FGCU softball season begins on Feb. 6.
