After more than two weeks at the University Medical Center in New Orleans, a Fort Myers teen who was injured in the New Year's attack will continue her recovery in Florida.
Steele Idelson, 19, will continue recovery at an inpatient rehabilitation hospital in Florida, according to a statement from the family.
"I want to extend our heartfelt thanks to the incredible UMC team, first responders, officers, and FBI victim specialists who supported Steele along the way," the statement read. "We want to thank San Diego State University, the Canterbury School, our Fort Myers community, family, and friends. Your love and encouragement mean the world to her."
Stelle also provided a statement.
" I want to thank my dad - Jayson Carmer. Your compassion and support means so much to me. I want to thank my siblings: Darrbe, Sutton, and Lottie. I love you guys so much. Sutton - I can’t wait to play soccer with you again someday. Darrbe and Lottie- I am looking forward to our next dance party rave. Lastly, I want to thank my mom. I don’t know what I would do without you. I love you so much. P.S. where your scrubs at? NOLA’s super dank," Stelle said.
In the early hours of New Year's Day, Shamsud-Din Jabbar was accused of deliberately driving a pickup truck into a crowd in the French Quarter District. The attack claimed the lives of over a dozen people and injured more than 30 others.
Among the injured were 19-year-old Fort Myers residents Elle Eisele and Steele Idelson . Both young women suffered broken bones and internal injuries in the incident.
Now, Stelle's family rejoices as she will return to Florida to continue to her recovery.
