There has been a lot of back and forth for years now when it comes to the plans for the future of the old News Press building along MLK Boulevard in downtown Fort Myers.
Now, Fort Myers city leaders want to hear what you have to say as they consider selling again.
The 170,000-square-foot building has sat empty for years.
The City of Fort Myers bought the News Press building back in 2019 for $9 million with an initial plan to turn it into police headquarters which fell short.
Then the city nearly sold the building in 2023 to a developer with the plans of turning it into an apartment complex with shops and even a hotel, but that also fell short.
Now the city is considering selling to another company for $11.5 million.
If sold, the plans are to turn the area into a mixed-use project with residential units, retail shops, a hotel, office spaces and even a cafe.
Before any of that happens, the city wants to hear from residents first.
On Tuesday, city leaders are asking to approve an advertisement for a public hearing.
If given the green light on the public hearing, it will be scheduled for Monday, March 3.
