A North Fort Myers woman is facing a plethora of charges after being accused of leading officers on a chase while under the influence of drugs.
On Sunday, Cape Coral police responded to reports of a vehicle burglary at the Dollar General on SE 10th Street.
Officers said they saw a woman, later identified as Kayla Jean Locke, 29, in the driver's seat of the car. As police approached the car, Locke reportedly drove away, nearly striking an officer.
According to the press release, Officers continued to try to pull Locke over, but she continued to speed away. CCPD said Locke was breaking multiple traffic laws, nearly driving on sidewalks, before getting stuck in the center median.
Locke got out of the car and ran away, according to police, before throwing items out of her pockets.
CCPD said a K9 officer chased Locke before releasing his dog. The K9 officer told Locke that she was about to get bit, giving her demands to stop before she complied, and the dog was called off.
Officers said they identified Locke and learned she had two active warrants from the Lee County Sheriff's Office and a suspended driver's license.
Investigations revealed that Locke was not involved in the vehicle burglary.
Officers said they discovered drugs, including fentanyl, and drug paraphernalia near where Locke had thrown items out of her pocket.
Additionally, police said they found an uncapped syringe inside the car, along with drug paraphernalia.
According to the press release, Locke showed signs of impairment, which prompted a DUI investigation. Officers determined she was under the influence.
Locke was taken to the hospital, where blood tests confirmed the presence of narcotics, according to CCPD.
Locke was arrested on the following charges:
- One count of fleeing an officer
- One count of resisting an officer
- Two counts of providing a false name to officers
- One count of hit-and-run
- One count of possession of fentanyl
- One count of possession of paraphernalia
- One count of DUI
- One count of DUI with property damage
- One county of operating a motor vehicle without a valid license
