Deputies arrested two cousins for street racing at double the speed limit on Lee Boulevard in Lehigh Acres on Saturday night.
According to the Lee County Sheriff's Office , Angel Maldonado, 18, and Jesse Erebia Jr., 20, were racing in two Camaros going between 85 and 90 mph in the 45-mph zone.
After the duo was caught, LCSO deputies also found a Glock 29 10mm handgun in Maldonado's car.
"Street racing has been like a rampant around this area for a while now. I'm just surprised now. They're just now making an arrest for it. But yeah, it's been happening forever," said Bianca Jean, who lives in Lehigh Acres.
The Florida Highway Patrol said they stopped over 200 vehicles in Lehigh Acres over the past few days, most of them for speeding.
"My mom's always coming home, like, late at night. My sister's coming home late at night from work, and I don't want them to have to worry about, like, two people being dumb and racing here," said Nabirah Corville, another Lehigh Acres resident.
Maldanado and Erebia are facing charges for street racing and stunt driving.
