A Georgia man is dead, and a DeSoto County deputy is recovering after a shooting in Arcadia early Saturday morning.

On Friday around 3:40 p.m., the DeSoto County Sheriff's Office said they received information from the Forsyth County Sheriff's Office in Georgia that Matthew Steven Rollie, 30, was in DeSoto County.
According to the DCSO , Rollie had an active warrant out of Forsyth County for enticing a child for indecent purposes. Additionally, Rollie was a registered sexual offender who had not registered within DeSoto County, as required by law.
The DCSO Criminal Investigative Division and Uniformed Patrol Division conducted an extensive search for Rollie through the afternoon and evening but were unable to find him.
On Saturday around 2:16 a.m., deputies conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle believed to be occupied by Rollie in the area of SR-72, between Thigpen Road and Addison Avenue.
Deputies said they found two individuals in the vehicle, with Rollie identified as the passenger.
While deputies worked to confirm his identity, Rollie reportedly armed himself with a firearm inside the car and opened fire, striking one of the deputies multiple times.
DCSO said deputies returned fire before striking Rollie. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
The injured deputy is receiving medical treatment and is reported to be recovering.
The Florida Department of Law Enforcement is now leading the investigation, following DCSO protocol for deputy-involved shootings.
