A Cape Coral man was arrested after being accused of driving under the influence along Santa Barbara Boulevard early Saturday.
According to the Cape Coral Police Department, around 2:51 a.m., an officer attempted to conduct a traffic stop on a blue Honda at Santa Barbara Boulevard and Veterans Memorial Parkway.
CCPD stated the car ran a red light. The officer activated emergency lights and sirens and followed the car northbound on Santa Barbara Boulevard.
The car sped up and quickly switched lanes multiple times without using a turn signal.
The police department said the driver, later identified as Anthony Ferrara, 25, sped through the intersection of Santa Barbara Boulevard and Nicholas Parkway.
The officer advised over the police radio that the car was heading toward Pine Island Road.
Another officer was at the intersection of Hancock Bridge Parkway and Santa Barbara Boulevard and saw the car approach the intersection.
That officer estimated the car was going 70 mph in a 45 mph zone.
CCPD states the Ferrera cut across all northbound lanes of Santa Barbara Boulevard to travel westbound on Hancock Bridge Parkway.
The officer followed the driver until he pulled into the parking lot of a Taco Bell on Hancock Bridge Parkway.
Ferrara had watery, bloodshot eyes, a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage on his breath, slurred speech, and poor balance.
He refused to participate in standard field sobriety exercises and was arrested for DUI, according to the police department.
Once Ferrara was arrested, he agreed to provide a breath sample, which had a BAC of .251%.
Ferrara was taken to the Lee County Jail and charged with one count of DUI and one count of fleeing and eluding police with lights and siren activated.
