A Charlotte County man pleaded guilty after attempting to shoot his ex-girlfriend in Fort Myers Shores and barricading himself inside his home in October 2023.
According to the Lee County Sheriff's Office, Daniel Dunn, 35, broke into the victim's home on the 3000 block of Third Street in Fort Myers Shores with a rifle.
Dunn shot her in the neck and then barricaded himself in his home on Mandy Street in Punta Gorda for hours.
A Special Weapons and Tactics team from Lee County assisted in the standoff.
Following a shootout with deputies, Dunn was shot and taken to a hospital, where he was stabilized.
The victim survived.
Dunn was charged with attempted first-degree murder, first-degree burglary while armed and possession of a firearm or ammunition by a convicted felon.
He pleaded guilty to all counts and will serve 480 months, almost 40 years, in prison.
