Two men were intercepted after trying to sell items out of their trunk while parked in a handicapped parking spot in Punta Gorda on Monday.
According to the Charlotte County Sheriff's Office, a detective in an unmarked vehicle watched suspicious activity in the Publix parking lot at 2310 Tamiami Trail while picking up his lunch.
CCSO said the deputy watched two men in a blue Chevy Equinox talk to people about items they had for sale in the trunk.
The men, Lance A. Holtz, 40, and Philip P. Pecaroro, 40, said they were looking to sell electronics that were packaged, high-end products and marked with fake MSRP price tags as high as $9,999.99.
Before the two made a sale, the detective intervened and conducted a field interview.
When questioned, both men confessed that they intended to sell cheap electronics from China to random people for more than they were worth.
The sheriff's office states the men claimed to be entertainment installers with one leftover item from a job that they would sell at a discounted price.
The detective explained that the sale would be illegal and result in their arrest.
The pair told the deputy they would be packing up and leaving Charlotte County immediately.
