A Naples man was arrested after being accused of leading Collier County deputies on a high-speed chase through Golden Gate Estates.
Ari Alexander Gjika, 21, is facing multiple charges after being arrested on Tuesday morning.
On Tuesday around 12:36 a.m., deputies said they saw a black car speeding south on Collier Boulevard.
CCSO said they were notified of the pursuit after deputies saw Gjika driving at speeds of at least 100 mph. According to deputies, the Gjika ran a red light at Golden Gate Parkway.
According to the arrest report, Gjika continued to speed away on Lime Rock Road before turning west toward Collier Blvd. where he went off the road and drove on a trail path. Deputies said the car hit a pothole which deflated the driver side tires.
Gjika reportedly continued to try and evade deputies by driving through dry retention ponds before coming to a stop on Collier Blvd., just north of City Gate Blvd.
Gjika was arrested and reportedly claimed he was just trying to get home.
Deputies said they found the following items in the glovebox while conducting an inventory of the car:
- THC vape cartridge
- Black box with THC cape cartridge with residue
- Round white container with marijuana shake
The arrest report states that Gjika was issued the following citations:
- Fleeing/eluding officers
- Failure to obey traffic control device; 100 mph in posted 45 mph speed zone
- Failure to obey traffic light
Gjika is reportedly facing the following charges:
- Fleeing/eluding a law enforcement officer with lights active
- Drug possession
- Possession of drug paraphernalia
